Kerr home is a reptile garden

Rapid City may have its Reptile Gardens with its world-record-setting collection of reptiles, but Custer has the James and Elke Kerr household with no less than 22 turtles from around the world. 
The assortment of reptiles, ranging from dry land tortoises to semi-aquatic and fully aquatic turtles, were all given to the Kerrs by other people who either couldn’t take care of them or just didn’t want them anymore.

Thursday, July 18
11:49 a.m.: A possible case of underage sexual contact was reported in Custer County. The report is under further investigation. 
11:52 a.m.: A small silver car was reportedly driving “All over the road” on Hwy. 79 near Fairburn. A deputy found the car, but it was driving normally. 
12 p.m.: Damage to a vehicle by marauding livestock was reported on Jewell Road. This is probably not a matter for the police. 

Trouble on the trails

Many Black Hills trails being used by increasingly large numbers of off-highway vehicle (OHV) riders were never designed for such heavy use. That alone would be enough to cause concerns about potential trail damage, but throw in the massive amount of rainfall this year and the resulting high water table and you have a perfect storm of trouble for Black Hills motorized use trails. 

Buffalo Gap set on reviving rodeo grounds

Many years ago, the town of Buffalo Gap, as part of its annual Buffalo Gap Blowout, held one of the area’s largest rodeos at its former rodeo grounds.
Three years ago when Buffalo Gap community members revived the Blowout, part of the plan was to eventually revive the rodeo. To that end, the Blowout Committee has been working diligently, with the help of the Buffalo Gap Town Board and volunteers, to build new rodeo grounds in town.

The 911 Misdial of the Day: A person’s mobile device dialed 911 while they were climbing onto a horse. Maybe the phone knew the horse better than the person did. 
10 a.m.: Deputies assisted a federal officer with an investigation on Montgomery Street in Custer. A 34-year-old Custer male was arrested there For active warrants. 
10:16 a.m.: A found cell phone was turned in at the sheriff’s office and then quickly returned to its owner.
